About Alex

Alex Aiello (they/them) is an educator, community organizer, and yoga teacher who grew up in New York City. They were first introduced to yoga as a child in elementary school and have carried a love for mindful movement and embodied practices ever since. Growing up in NYC nurtured Alex’s passion for social justice, community care, and education.

Alex attended Davidson College, where they graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Sociology and Gender and Sexuality Studies. During their time at Davidson, they served as president of Students Against Sexual Violence, organizing campus-wide educational campaigns, advocacy efforts, and peer support initiatives. They also volunteered as a staffer for the National Sexual Assault Hotline through the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN), deepening their commitment to anti-violence work and survivor-centered advocacy.

After college, Alex returned to New York City and began working at Day One NY, where they delivered preventative workshops on teen dating abuse, healthy relationships, and consent to young people ages 11 to 24 across schools and community programs. Their work emphasized trauma-informed, inclusive, and youth-centered approaches that foster safety, empowerment, and critical dialogue.

In 2023, Alex joined CONNECT as a Community Educator, focusing on Restorative Justice and community-based responses to gender-based violence. At CONNECT, they facilitated trainings, workshops, and healing circles in collaboration with schools, nonprofits, and community organizations, centering accountability, healing, and collective care in their approach.

Alongside their violence prevention and community education work, Alex deepened their long-time yoga practice, completing their 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT-200) at Shambhala Yoga & Dance Center in Brooklyn in June 2025 and are now a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance. Their yoga teaching is rooted in mindfulness, compassion, and inclusivity, with a focus on creating accessible spaces for people of all identities and bodies—including survivors, queer and trans folks, and beginners.

Alex is currently available to teach private and group yoga classes, offering practices that honor individual needs and foster healing and self-connection.

In August 2025, Alex relocated to Bloomington, Indiana, to begin their Ph.D. program in Gender Studies at Indiana University, where they continue exploring the intersections of gender, sexuality, violence, and healing through research, teaching, and community engagement.

With this new chapter, Alex has also launched their consulting practice, Aligned Advocate, through which they offer workshops, trainings, and yoga classes—both virtually and in-person in Bloomington and occasionally in New York City.

Through Aligned Advocate, Alex continues their commitment to building spaces for empowerment, education, and embodied healing.
